Y. Matties, Ph.D.

Dr. Matties is a senior Chemist and highly experienced in the areas of organic and biochemistry, chemical database searching techniques, genetics, and neurosciences. She excels at scientific literature searching, abstracting, and writing and serves as a Chemical Subject Matter Expert for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases ChemDB database contract.

Her work at the University of Cincinnati included the investigation of protein-nucleic acid interactions using molecular dynamics simulations and administration of the Chemistry Department’s Silicon Graphics workstations. Joining Georgetown University Medical School as a postdoctoral research assistant, she developed 3-dimensional chemical database searching techniques using Chem-X, as well as the rational drug design of cocaine antagonist using QUANTA/CHARMM and Cerius2.

Dr. Matties' significant teaching experience includes specialized educational concentrations during her tenure as a Howard Community College instructor in the fundamentals of organic and biochemistry as well as her current status as an instructor of elementary and intermediate level Chinese language courses at the University of Maryland, College Park. She received both her M.S. and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio and her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
