Instruction on effective scientific writing.
Cygnus provided on-site training, instruction on effective writing of scientific manuscripts, and editorial services for the Laboratory of Neurosciences, National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH). We offered one-on-one editorial guidance and instruction to scientists who worked at the Institute’s laboratories, most of whom were new Visiting Fellows. By utilizing our team of scientific editors, we greatly improved the readability of articles and ultimately the acceptance of their work. Our scientific editors helped the scientists organize and structure their research papers; we evaluated and critiqued their written exercises, offered feedback, and copyedited and proofread their manuscripts before submission to scholarly journals. Our editors assisted with manuscript topics such as:
-
Fatty acid incorporation into the brain;
-
Lipid metabolism in ischemia;
-
Neuronal selective vulnerability of Alzheimer’s disease;
-
Visual cortical dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease;
-
Brain arachidonate incorporation using positron emission tomography;
-
Labeling of brain phospholipids in vivo; and
-
Modulation of blood-brain barrier permeability.
Our staff helped the Institute’s researchers shape their articles, draft text, and incorporate editorial suggestions from peer reviewers. The result was wider dissemination of important research findings.
