S. Wong, Ph.D.

Dr. Simin S. Wong is a part of the Scientific and Technical Services Practice Leadership for Cygnus. She plays a vital role in aiding the company in both the type of work we focus on, as well as assisting in the development of white papers and other content that falls under her purview as an award-winning evidence-based research scientist. With a Ph.D. in Public Health and Health Education, an M.P.H. in Epidemiology, and a B.A. in Mathematics and Sociology, Dr. Wong has had an exceptional background as a health researcher, educator, and published author over more than three decades, both domestically and internationally. She is the only woman ever appointed to the prestigious position of Associate Director, College of Medicine Research Center, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia.

She is widely recognized as an authority in the field of public health, epidemiology, nutrition, health policy, healthcare curriculum development and training, substance use disorders (SUDs), and community medicine. As a Policy Advisor for the District of Columbia’s (DC) Mayoral Office of Health Policy, Dr. Wong was able to develop health policy options consistent with the Mayor’s Transformation Initiatives in order to improve the healthcare delivery system in DC. While Adjunct Professor of Community Medicine at Georgetown University Medical School she pioneered community-based medical research in developing countries.

In addition to her experience in building intervention programs to promote mental and physical health, healthy nutrition, prevention and treatment of SUDs and opioids addiction prevention, Dr. Wong has also worked extensively towards the prevention and/or management of chronic diseases including diabetes, cancer, asthma, and heart disease. Her clients have included the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a number of NIH Institutes.

Dr. Wong is currently involved with the expansion of cooperative research and curriculum design with area universities, as well as education tools for first responders on topics such as using Medication-Assisted Treatment protocols and addressing chronic pain for our nation’s homeless Veterans.
