SAMHSA’s National Prevention Week is an annual event designed to increase public awareness of, and action around, substance abuse and mental health issues. The slogan for this year’s National Prevention Week is, “Strong As One. Stronger Together.”  All week long (5/16-5/20), SAMHSA will be hosting events and promoting mental health awareness and substance abuse issues as it pertains to the 2016 National Prevention Week.

Prevention Is Key

Not everyone has to suffer the devastating effects of addiction, and prevention has been a proven method in helping alleviate the problem as a whole. The stigma of mental health and addiction has crippled this nation and we need to speak up, raise awareness, help prevent, and work towards treating addicts, alcoholics, and anyone who is struggling from a mental health disorder. The more voices that speak up, the more the solution is heard. So speak up and help prevent drug and alcohol abuse today.

Around the country many people are choosing prevention. The “I Choose” project, which began in February 2013, will continue through National Prevention Week 2016! This project is an easy way to make a difference, be a positive example, and inspire others. By participating in the “I Choose” Project, Cygnus is helping to spread the word that our choices make a big difference in our lives, our health, and our future.
