Meng Cheng, Ph.D.

As the Director of Information Services, Dr. Cheng has oversight of all work in this practice area and brings expertise managing critical technical and scientific activities to Cygnus. This includes subject matter expertise and support for a range of biomedical information, research and evaluation, and other scientific project needs. She brings more than a decade of experience as a Senior Chemist, as well as a Programming and Information Technology Specialist. Dr. Cheng’s background includes the design, development, and maintenance of a range of scientific information projects and familiarity with health databases such as ChemIDplus®, ChemDB, MEDLINE®, TOXNET, and MeSH® Indexing. 

Dr. Cheng is a certified Oracle DBA and a LAN engineer with a strong background in computer science and technology and is responsible for analyzing, developing, and maintaining Cygnus’ computer systems, hardware, extensive library of applications software, and providing software training as well as user support. For our ChemIDplus® project, Dr. Cheng utilizes her specialty in chemistry and information systems to provide a number of critical services for the development and maintenance of this important research database. 

In addition, Dr. Cheng provides exceptional up-to-date knowledge of drug development research; in-depth pharmacological, toxicological, and biological knowledge; a strong understanding of assays; and has a solid research background. Also with her proficiency in programming, she has developed efficient and effective programs to parse and retrieve data from various government databases and other online resources. 

Dr. Cheng’s expertise includes proficiency in various software programs including ASP, Accelrys Host, Accelrys Direct, Accelrys/ISIS Base, Accelrys Draw, C++, Java, Microsoft Access, Oracle, Perl, PL/SQL, and Visual Basic. She obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Rhode Island, and an M.S. and B.S., both in Chemistry, from Zhejiang University, China and is a native Mandarin speaker.
